Wires in the Borough

On 4-23-10 at 6:32 company 57(Upland) was dispatched to 2 Church St. for wires. 57-9a(S. Johnson) made the response and went on location with a bird that struck the fuse, knocking out power. Peco was notified. 57-9a was on location about half an hour before returning.

Happy 84th Birthday

On saturday April 24th the Upland Fire Company will celebrate their 84th anniversary as a fire company serving Upland Borough. The members and officers of Upland Fire Company would like to thank the residents of Upland Borough on the continued support through our 84 years of service.

 

Welcome Home Dave!

On Sunday, April 12th at around 3:30 PM Dave Montella returned home .  He arrived at his home to have a warm welcome from friends, family, neighbors, residents, fellow firefighters and police officers.  As Dave was brought out of Ambulance 52-7A, Dave gave everyone Thumbs Up and the crowd clapped and cheered to welcome him home.  He was able to see the arch in front of his house.  He was carried into his home and before he was being switched over from the strechter to the bed he wanted to stand up and walked to the door and thank everyone for the warm welcome.  He then sat in the chair and was able to shake the hand of everyone who missed him. Congratulations to Dave on a speedy recovery.

 

Get well Soon

The officers and members of the Upland Fire Company would like to wish Upper Providence Police Chief and Brookhaven Fire Co. 1st Asst. Engineer Dave Montella a speedy recovery. Dave Montella was involved in a high speed accident on Rt. 1 while in persuit of a motercycle on april 5th and was air lifted to hospital of the University of Pennsylvania via PENNstar-2. Dave Montella is listed in stable condition. We wish him a speedy recovery and best wishes to his family.

 

Fire Alarm in the Farms

On 4-5-10 at 19:12 Companies 47(Chester-Township) 52(Brookhaven) 57(Upland) and M45-7 was dispatched to 4032 Worrilow Rd in chester township for the fire alarm. Company 57 was out drilling when the alarm came in and went responding with full Company 57. 57-1 was first on location with nothing showing. 57-9 talked to the home owner and was advised that it was a fire in the oven that was extinguished. There was no smoke condition in the house. 47 command held to 47 and 57 to investigate and later recalled. Companys were on scene for 15 minutes before returning.

 

Brush

On 3-31-10 19:23 Company 57 and Chester 11 was dispatched in the area of Upland and Kerlin for brush. Chester-11 went responding to discover the smoke coming from hill st. 57-9a(S. Johnson) went on location at 1035 Hill St. with a pile of sticks being burned in a yard. 57-1 went on location and pulled the forestry line of the front the truck and extinguished the fire. Company 57 was on location about 13 minutes before returning.

 

Building Fire on Race St.

On 3-25-10 at 12:36 Companies 57(Upland) 52(brookhaven) 45(Parkside) 47(Chester Township) 40(Upper Chi) 39(lower chi) for the RIT and M 45-7 was dispatched to 3 front st. for the building. 57-1 responded under the command of FF S. Nagy. Tac 45 went on location smoke showing fire in the rear of a trailor. Eng. 52 arrived next and was ordered to stretch an 1 3/4" line to the rear to extinguish the fire. 45-9a advised fireboard that the building was located in the city of Chester and chester-11 was notified. Companies extinguished the fire and were on location about 1 hour before returning.

 

Building Fire in the Local

On 3-14-10 company 57(Upland) 52(Brookhaven) 45(Parkside) 47(Chester-Township) 72(Aston-Beechwood) 39(Lower-Chichester) and Medic 45 were dispatched to 12 Hill St. in Upland for the building fire reported to be a kitchen. 57-1 went responding under the command of 57-9a(S. Johnson) with 57-9 responding right after. 57-9 went on location with smoke showing. 57-1 went on location and went inservice with an 1 3/4 hand line and crews found a small kitchen fire that was under control by the home owner. Upland Car 1(D. Favinger) was called to investigate the scene.

 

Accident with Injuries

On 2-27-10 at 7:18 companies 57(Upland) 52(Brookhaven) and M45-7 was dispatched to 824 Upland Ave. infront of the Upland Shopping Center for an accident with multiple injuries. Tac 57 went responding under the command of R. Covey and arrived to find 2 vehicles involved with 1 subject on the roadway. Medic 83-7(Chester) and Medic 100(Crozer Supervisor) was added to the call to assist along with 6th district fire police. 2 subjects were transported via the medics. Tac 57 put down oil dry and cleaned up debris. Crews were on location for about about 1/2 an hour before returning.

 

Commercial Building Fire

On 2-26-10 at 5:41 Companies 47(Chester Township) 52(Brookhaven) 57(Upland) 61(Reliance) 40(Boothwyn) 63(Green-Ridge) 39(Lower-Chi) 23 (Media) M81-7 was dispatched to 121 N Commerce Dr. at Alloy Surfaces for the commercial building fire.Truck 63 was first on location to find several boxes on fire. Crews went in service with an 1 3/4 line and extinguished the fire quickly. 57-1 went responding under the command of FF S. Nagy. Crews performed ventilation and helped with clean up. Crews were on location for about an hour before returning.

 

 

Vehicle fire on Upland Ave.

On 2-08-10 at 4:04 Company 57 was dispatched to 1 Upland Ave. at Atlantic Communications for a vehicle fire. Tac 57 went responding under the command of FF T. Chalfant and went on location with 1 vehicle fully involved and went inservice with and 1" Forestry line. 57-9a went responding moments after Tac 57 went on location. The blaze was put under control in about 5 minutes. Towing was notified by police and Tac 57 went available.

 

Building Fire on Upland Ave.

On 2-12-10 companies 57(Upland) 52(Brookhaven) 45(Parkside) 47(Chester-Township) 72(Aston-Beechwood) 50(Middletown) 39(Lower Chi) for the RIT and M45-7 was dispatched to 29 Upland Ave. for a building fire. Tac 45 was first on location reporting fire showing from a basement window in the front. Crews went inservice with an 1 3/4 line to attack the blaze and the fire was under control in about 10 minutes. 57-1 went responding under the command of FF S. Nagy. Crews were on location for about 1 1/2 hours before returning.

 

 

Building Fire in the local

On 1-28-10 at 14:32 Companies 57(Upland) 52(Brookhaven) 45(Parkside) 47(Chester-Township) 72(Aston-Beechwood) 40(Upper Chi-Chester) 50(Middletown) Rit 39(Lower Chi-Chester) M457 was dispatched to 417 10th St. in Upland for the building fire with oxygen tanks in the building and the building filling with smoke. Police went on location and advised heavy smoke in the building. 57-1 went responding with a staffing of 4. After investigating, it was discovered to be unattended cooking. Crews ventilated the building and went available.


Cover Chester

On 1-20-10 at 17:08 company 57 was dispatched along with 12 and 65 to cover station 82(Chester) while working at a fire. Companies stood by for about 1 1/2 hours before going off radio. 57 did not respond to any calls while covering.


Trash fire in the local

On 1-19-10 at 19:06 Company 57(Upland) was dispatched to 500 West 24th St. at the Army reserve for a trash fire. Tac 57 went responding fully staffed under the command of FF. T. Chaflant with 57-9(D. Smith) going POV. 57-9 went on location with a large trash bag on fire. Tac 57 went on location and went into service with a 1" hand line and extinguished the bag. Company 57 was on about 20 min. before returning.


Building in Chester Township

On 1-1-10 at 22:01 Companies 47(Chester Township) 57(Upland) 52(Brookhaven) and the medics were dispatched to 1341Elson Rd for the building fire. 57-1 responded under the command of FF J.Taylor fully staffed and arrived to find nothing showing. Quint 52 was next on scene. 57's and 52's crew investigated to find a birds nest inside an exhaust fan that burnt out the motor causing the odor. companies were on scene 30 min. before returning.

Building Fire In Chester Township

12/04/09 at 12:24 Companies 47(Chester Township) 52(Brookhaven) 57(Upland) 45(Parkside) 61(Reliance) 68(Marcus Hook) 23(Media) for the RIT 63(Green Ridge) for the RIT and 39(Lower Chi Chester) for the RIT was dispatched to 2700 Bethel Rd. for the building fire. 57-1 went responding under the command of T. Chaflant. Police went on location first reporting a working fire in the rear. 47-9 went on location next with fire showing.  Crews were on location working for over 2 hours before returning.


Building Fire at Crozer

12/03/09 at 18:43 Companies 57(Upland) 52(Brookhaven) 45(Parkside) 47(Chester Township) 72(Aston-Beechwood) 63(Green-Ridge) 12(Eddystone) 65(Garden City) and Chester Companies were dispatched to 1 Medical Center Blvd. at Crozer Hospital for the building fire reported to be smoke coming from the ceiling on the 5th floor Ambulatory care wing. 57-1 made the response under the command of J. Taylor, Tac 57 under the command of S. Johnson and  57-9(D. Smith) going direct. 57-9 arrived to find Chester companies investigating. with nothing showing. Investigations were made to find that it was a blown heater motor. The motor was shut off and companies made themselves available. 57 was on location just over an hour before returning.


Late Night Cover Back to Chester

12/03/09 at 4:39 Companies 57 (Upland) 12(Eddystone) and 65(Garden City) were dispatched to cover the city while they worked on the same building that came in on the 1st. Companies again covered for about half an hour with no runs made.


Fuel Spill in Upland

12/02/09 at 14:34 company 57 was dispatched to 8th and Main St. for the fuel spill coming from a green Ford Expedition. Tac 57 made the response under the command of S. Naggy and arrived to find a medium sized fuel spill stretching about 25 Ft. Oil dry was put down on the road way while state police blocked off the road. Crews were on location for about 20 minutes before returning.


Cover Chester

12/01/09 at 21:12 Companies 57 (Upland) 12(Eddystone) and 65(Garden City) were dispatched to cover company 82 (Chester) while they worked at a large building fire. Companies covered for approximately half an hour with no runs made.


Building Fire in Brookhaven

11/30/09 at 18:10 Companies 52(Brookhaven) 57(Upland) 47(Chester-Township) 50(Middletown) 63(Green-Ridge) for the RIT and 23(Media) was dispatched to 107 Edward Dr. for a building fire reported to be in the basement. Company 52 arrived first to find a small dryer fire that was extinguished quickly. 57-1 went responding under the command of J. Taylor. 57 crews went in to check out the 1st floor for extension and found nothing. Company 57 was out for just under an hour before returning


Fire Alarm in Upland

11/29/09 at 12:24 Company 57(Upland) and 52 (Brookhaven) was dispatched to 1020 Mulberry St. for a fire alarm. Tac 57 went responding under the command of 57-9(D. Smith) and arrived to find a false activation. The alarm was reset and 57 went available.
